TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Texas A&M gets back into SEC play Saturday with one of the toughest road trips on its schedule, a 2:30 p.m. Central kickoff against No. 13 Alabama at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa.

The Aggies sit at 4-3 overall and 1-3 in the league after a 41-0 shutout of The Citadel last weekend. Alabama is 5-2 and 3-2 in conference play but has dropped two in a row, most recently a 26-10 loss at Tennessee, so both sides need this one.

Much of the week’s focus in College Station has been on the A&M offense. Quarterback Marcel Reed has completed only 55.7 percent of his throws, with seven touchdown passes and six interceptions, and the Tide have picked off 10 passes this fall. Freshman running back KJ Edwards ran for a career-best 116 yards against The Citadel, but Alabama gives up only 107 rushing yards a game.

The A&M receiving group is short-handed. Terry Bussey and Kelshaun Johnson have been ruled out and Mario Craver is questionable, leaving more on Isaiah Horton, the team leader with 280 receiving yards, and Aaron Gregory, who had six catches for 94 yards and two scores last week.

On defense, the Aggies have just five sacks all year, yet Tennessee sacked Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell five times a week ago. Russell has passed for 1,746 yards and 12 touchdowns. A&M kicker David Olano, a senior transfer from Illinois, has made all 11 of his field goal tries and all 24 extra points in his first SEC season. An A&M win would be the program’s most notable result of the fall and would pull the Aggies back toward .500 in conference play with the second half of the schedule still ahead.
