COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Four Aggie men’s swimmers at Texas A&M in College Station no longer appear on the program’s online roster after the university wrapped up a review of student conduct violations, and the Aggies have opened their dual-meet season without them.

The university said this week that its review of the reported violations, which involved a small number of athletes, is complete and that action has been taken. It has not said publicly which athletes were involved or what the penalties were, citing student privacy. An athletics spokesperson would only say the posted roster is current.

The swimmers missing from the list include a fifth-year, two seniors and a junior, among them the team’s lone individual qualifier for last season’s NCAA championships and a swimmer who scored at three NCAA meets. All four were still listed as enrolled in the campus directory as of Thursday. The violations have been described as hazing, which would make this the second hazing-related case for the school in a little more than three years.

Head coach Blaire Anderson sent a letter to athletes and parents explaining why the team has looked thin at recent meets. Some absences came from illness and injury, she wrote, but others were tied to conduct problems, and she said behavior that does not match the school’s core values has no place in the program.

The depleted roster has shown in the results. Texas A&M has dropped both of its meets so far. Georgia won 222-78, and LSU followed with a 181.5-116.5 victory.

Anderson told families she will answer what questions she can, and the program says it will keep working with university leaders on the standards it expects from its athletes.
