COLUMBIA, S.C. — College Station’s Texas A&M came up short Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium, falling 17-9 to South Carolina and slipping to four wins and five losses, including a 1-5 league mark.
The Aggies led 9-7 heading into the fourth quarter on three field goals by David Olano, who connected from 40, 46 and 44 yards and accounted for every Texas A&M point. A third-quarter attempt that would have made the score 12-7 was his first miss after 16 successful tries to open the season.
South Carolina, 6-3 and 4-3 in the league and No. 21 in the College Football Playoff rankings, went back in front 10-9 on a 43-yard kick by Malik Orsan midway through the fourth. LaNorris Sellers then closed out the 17-9 result with a 41-yard touchdown run with 1:19 remaining, one snap after the Gamecocks had stuffed Texas A&M on downs. Sellers had headed to the locker room just before halftime for X-rays on his ankle, and coach Shane Beamer was unsure whether he could return after the break.
Rueben Owens II piled up 137 rushing yards on 19 totes, his best ground day of 2026, and ripped off 44 yards on the opening snap after halftime. Marcel Reed finished 25-for-43 through the air for 251 yards, matching his top passing total of the year. Texas A&M finished with more total yards and controlled the clock for almost 10 extra minutes, and the last Aggie drive reached the South Carolina 3-yard line before Reed’s final throw sailed over his receiver.
On defense, Texas A&M limited South Carolina to 109 yards on the ground and only four successes in 12 third-down tries. Marcus Ratcliffe led the group with six tackles. Bryce Perry-Wright recorded a strip-sack in the second quarter that the Aggies recovered, the first sack and forced fumble of his career.
The defeat was Texas A&M’s third in its past four games and locked in a losing league record one season after a College Football Playoff berth. The Aggies opened the year ranked No. 8. South Carolina, No. 23 in the AP Top 25, has now won four straight after starting 0-3 in conference play. Sellers passed for 251 yards and a touchdown on top of the late scoring run.
The Aggies host Tennessee on Nov. 14 at Kyle Field for the program’s Operation Blackout night, with a kickoff window of 2 to 3:15 p.m.
