Brazos County Explores New Inner Loop East Roadway

Conceptual design of the Inner Loop East roadway

News Summary

Brazos County is partnering with TxDOT to assess the feasibility of the Inner Loop East project, aimed at improving traffic flow between Bryan and College Station. The proposed 20-mile roadway will connect State Highway 6 and William D. Fitch Parkway. A public meeting is set to gather community feedback on the proposed routes, reflecting a commitment to transparent communication and addressing resident concerns about potential impacts on local properties.

Bryan, Texas – Brazos County is collaborating with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to explore the feasibility of a new roadway designated as the Inner Loop East. This proposed roadway aims to improve traffic flow between the cities of Bryan and College Station.

The loop alignment is projected to extend approximately 20 miles, connecting State Highway 6 at FM-2818 in Bryan and continuing southward to William D. Fitch Parkway in College Station. The project is financed through the Transportation Road Improvement Bond Program (TRIP), part of the 2022 bond package approved by local voters.

A corridor for the proposed route has already been identified, which includes several potential path options. In an effort to engage local residents, the County has called for public feedback regarding these proposed routes. A public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 7, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Brazos Center, located at 3232 Briarcrest Drive in Bryan. This meeting is designed in an open house format, where attendees can review project displays and pose questions to the project team.

The objective of the upcoming meeting is to discuss the project in detail and gather public comments, reinforcing community involvement in the planning process. A previous public meeting held in November 2024 garnered significant interest, drawing over 600 attendees and resulting in more than 1,300 comments from the public.

In addition to public consultations, environmental studies and discussions with property owners are currently underway to address any potential impacts the project may have on local areas and properties. The primary goal of the Inner Loop East is to enhance north-south connectivity and increase roadway capacity to accommodate future traffic volume growth.

Community feedback will play a critical role in shaping the development of the project. Residents are encouraged to share their thoughts and concerns through multiple channels, including mail, online submissions, email, or voicemail. This outreach effort is part of the County’s commitment to maintain transparent communication with residents and property owners throughout the planning stages.

Some community members have already voiced concerns regarding the potential effects of the loop’s development on their family-owned properties, indicating that local sentiments will need to be addressed as part of ongoing consultations. The study team is committed to engaging with the concerns of residents to ensure their voices are considered in the planning process.

As the study team continues its work, the Brazos County community remains encouraged to participate actively in the dialogue about the Inner Loop East project, thereby helping shape a transportation solution that meets the needs of both Bryan and College Station.
