TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Texas A&M went into the fourth quarter at Tuscaloosa with a lead and came out of it with a 31-20 loss, as No. 13 Alabama scored the last two touchdowns of Saturday’s game at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
The Aggies dug an early hole when Dijon Lee Jr. stepped in front of a Marcel Reed throw on the opening series and ran it back 39 yards for an Alabama touchdown. Reed was picked again on the very next drive, but he settled down. He hit Mario Craver from 9 yards out to tie the game, then ran in a 4-yard score that put A&M ahead 14-10 in the second quarter.
The teams went to the locker room tied at 17 after David Olano made a 32-yard kick, and Olano struck again from 25 yards on the first series of the second half to give the Aggies a 20-17 edge. He is now 13-for-13 on field goals this fall, a first for an A&M kicker in at least four decades.
That lead did not survive the turn to the fourth. Keelon Russell threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to tight end Marshall Pritchett on the opening snap of the period, and Kaleb Edwards caught an 8-yard score with 10:06 left. Texas A&M did not reach the end zone after halftime. Alabama receiver Rico Scott did much of the damage through the air, finishing with six catches for 156 yards.
Reed completed 14 of 21 passes for 163 yards, and his touchdown to Craver was the 49th of his career, fourth most in school history. Linebacker Daymion Sanford had a season-best eight tackles, and cornerback Dezz Ricks picked off a pass that set up a field goal.
The loss evens the Aggies at 4-4, and they are 1-4 against Southeastern Conference opponents. After an open date, Texas A&M visits South Carolina in Columbia on Nov. 7.
