Texas is making quite a name for itself in the employment sector, as 30 Texas-based companies have secured spots on U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 Best Places to Work list. This accolade underscores the growing recognition of Texas as a desirable workplace for job seekers across various industries.

The U.S. News list evaluated nearly 500 public and private employers based on six key metrics. These metrics encompassed essential aspects such as employee sentiment, workforce characteristics, leadership quality, business ethics, lawsuit implications, and employee benefits. Additionally, the report sourced over 30 extra data points to provide a comprehensive analysis of what makes a great employer.

Three cities—Houston, Dallas, and Austin—stood out as hotspots for top employers. Houston, in particular, was highlighted for its substantial representation on the list, with nearly a dozen companies recognized. The companies were categorized based on job opportunities and industry-specific classifications, ensuring a diverse range of employers are acknowledged.

As part of its expanded methodology for the 2025-2026 ratings, U.S. News now includes privately owned companies and firms that offer internships for college students and recent graduates. This shift reflects a growing emphasis on identifying employers that cater to younger workers entering the job market.

Top Employers in Houston

Among the recognitions, Houston’s Chemical Energy Giant, Chevron, emerged as the top public employer within the city. Chevron, with a workforce exceeding 45,000, generates an impressive $193.47 billion in annual revenue. Notably, the company received high marks for job stability, sense of belonging, and quality of pay.

Cheetah’s success did not stop there. Chevron was also featured in related categories, including ‘Best in Energy and Resources,’ ‘Best Companies in the South,’ and ‘Best for Internships,’ highlighting its significant contributions to both the local and broader economy.

On the private front, the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) claimed the title of the top private employer in Houston. ABS is recognized for fostering work-life balance and providing employees with job stability and competitive pay. Employing between 5,000 and 10,000 people, the company reports revenue ranging from $1 billion to $10 billion annually.

Recognition Across Texas

The acknowledgment extends beyond Houston, with the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area contributing 11 companies to the Best Places to Work list. Furthermore, Diamondback Energy, based in Midland, was the only representative from West Texas, marking its place on the list for the second consecutive year.

Other notable employers from the Houston area and broader markets of Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, and San Antonio were identified, demonstrating a significant distribution of recognized Texas companies and showcasing the state’s robust employment landscape.

This year’s report indicates a vital shift in the employment arena, with an increasing number of Texas companies catching the attention of job seekers. The comprehensive evaluation process by U.S. News reflects a commitment to highlighting employers who prioritize their workforce and create positive work environments.

In conclusion, Texas is demonstrating its prowess in attracting and retaining top talent, with an impressive showing in the U.S. News’ Best Places to Work list.
