In a move to encourage outdoor leisure and enhance community spaces, the City Council awarded the contract for the new Midtown Park Boardwalk in January. Construction is set to kick off in March and is expected to wrap up by October 2025. Excitingly, the redesign of this boardwalk has led to significant cost savings – between $4.5 million and $5 million for the city. Water Projects on the Horizon
The council has also received permits from TCEQ which means work at the local lake can proceed. In addition, the Old Hearne Road Extension Project is now underway, which will extend about 1,800 feet of new road along with sidewalks and storm sewers. It’s slated for completion by the end of 2025.
Progress continues on the Chick Lane Elevated Storage Tank as well. The pedestal has been completed, and we can expect the bowl to be installed this upcoming summer. Plus, the contractor for the Old Hearne Road project has just wrapped up some major fixes, and the Commerce Street Reconstruction project is officially completed!
On the Home Stretch for Major Projects
Speaking of nearing completion, the Sulphur Springs Roadway, Sanitary, and Waterline Rehabilitation project is in the punch list phase, making great strides as it approaches the finish line. Meanwhile, the Bristol Street and Esther Boulevard Drainage Improvements project is actively under construction, also aiming for a completion by the end of 2025.
Enhancing City Infrastructure
The Hillside Drive/Old Oaks Drive Drainage Improvements Project is now substantially complete and transitioning into the punch list phase. Additionally, traffic signal replacements at Villa Maria and Briarcrest and from Briarcrest at Broadmoor are underway, projected to finish by the end of next month. As for local happenings, the Bryan Aquatic Center will be closed from February 22 to March 19 for some much-needed bulkhead replacement.
