College Station – A serious head-on collision in College Station on June 13 has led to the arrest of a 22-year-old local man, Cody Tyler Morgan, and left one driver with extensive injuries. The crash occurred around 6 p.m. in the 5000 block of Holleman Drive South when Morgan’s red Ford pickup allegedly ran a stop sign, striking a Toyota RAV4 and then colliding with the back of a Chevrolet Sonic.

Witnesses reported that Morgan was driving at speeds of up to 80 mph before the incident occurred. The driver of the RAV4 incurred severe injuries, requiring immediate medical attention. This person suffered multiple broken bones, including shattered ankles, a fractured pelvis, femur, and ribs, and was subsequently flown by helicopter to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment.

In addition to the head-on collision, Morgan faces several charges, among them Intoxication Assault with a Vehicle Causing Serious Bodily Injury, Reckless Driving, Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon, and a window tint violation. At the scene of the accident, investigators discovered multiple open containers of alcohol inside Morgan’s vehicle, suggesting impairment at the time of the crash. Furthermore, Morgan attempted to flee the accident scene but was taken into custody shortly thereafter.

Morgan has a troubling history with law enforcement, including prior arrests for DWI, public intoxication, and driving without insurance. He is currently held at the Brazos County Detention Center, with bond amounts exceeding $100,000.

A passenger in Morgan’s pickup truck, 23-year-old Jett Ubben, was also charged with public intoxication after allegedly trying to escape the scene. Ubben has a past of arrests for possession of marijuana, DWI, and public intoxication as well.

Authorities noted that the crash may have been exacerbated by poor road conditions due to recent rainfall, in addition to issues related to the vehicle’s tires. The investigation is still ongoing, with police working to establish a full timeline and circumstances surrounding the crash. As a precaution and part of the investigation, a section of Holleman Drive has been closed to facilitate further reconstruction efforts.

Prior to the accident, police had already been dispatched to reports of a man firing a gun into the ground at a student housing complex. Investigators have linked Morgan’s vehicle to this earlier incident, highlighting the complexity of the events leading to the crash.

The injured driver’s condition remains undisclosed, as is the full scope of the injuries sustained. The community is left reflecting on the consequences of reckless driving and substance abuse, as the investigation continues to unfold around this alarming series of events.
