In addition to the I Heart America Celebration, the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum also hosted its own Independence Day festivities. The museum offered free admission all day, which attracted numerous visitors. The event included various activities for children and refreshments. Although RSVPs were not required, over 2,000 people expressed interest in attending, pointing to the event’s popularity. Many families traveled from neighboring states, such as Nebraska and New Mexico, to participate in the celebrations.

The library’s activities included arts and crafts, bounce houses, and numerous booths set up by local veteran service organizations, providing an opportunity for attendees to learn and engage with veterans. Volunteers at the event provided free water and soda to visitors, and an ice cream station added a sweet touch to the day’s offerings. A standout moment included the local Navy veteran Jim Bruffet, who recited the song “Old Ragged Flag” by Johnny Cash several times, resonating with many in attendance. Additionally, Air Force veteran Paul M. Baker from the Robertson County VFW shared personal experiences with visitors, enhancing the event’s sense of community.

American Legion Post 1938, a new post, also participated in the celebration, eager to connect with the community and contribute to the Independence Day events. Overall, the library’s celebration aimed to promote community engagement and honored America’s 249th birthday with deep-rooted traditions. The thriving attendance of families and individuals highlights the event’s success and the community’s appreciation for the holiday, with many looking forward to next year’s significant milestone, the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
