Eugene, Oregon – Lilly Urban, a javelin thrower from the Wolf Pack, will represent her team at the Division-I National Track & Field Championships next week. Scheduled for June 11-14, the national meet will take place at Hayward Field in Eugene, and Urban aims to achieve All-American status during this prestigious competition.

Urban, the only remaining Wolf Pack athlete competing this season, expressed her excitement and determination to qualify for the national meet after facing disappointment in the previous year. Her journey to this championship has been marked by perseverance, culminating in a remarkable performance at the west regional competition held in College Station, Texas. Urban secured an 8th place finish with a final throw of 53.49 meters, a feat she accomplished on her last attempt, overcoming initial qualifying challenges.

Urban’s last throw surprised both her and her coach, Scott Williamson, who had always believed in her potential. Her determination and positive attitude during this crucial moment were pivotal in her qualification, allowing her to transform an initial setback into an opportunity for success.

A sophomore from Germany, Urban spent her previous season acclimating to life in the United States and prioritizing her health. Her two-year journey in competitive javelin throw has included strategic adjustments and focusing on building her strength. Coach Scott Williamson, who recruited Urban from over 5,500 miles away, has played a key role in her development as an athlete, providing guidance and support as she grows in her sport.

The javelin event in which Urban will compete is scheduled for Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. The championship will be broadcast across the ESPN family of networks, allowing fans and followers to support Urban from afar as she strives to claim her All-American title.

Looking ahead, the Wolf Pack will also participate in the indoor season, with their final event set for the Reno meet on February 6, 2025. This upcoming event will run from 10 a.m. to 5:10 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Saturday at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. General admission tickets for this indoor meet are priced at $10 and will be managed by the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority on-site.

Fans can support the Nevada Track and Field team by following their social media channels and watching the forthcoming meet through live streaming on the Mountain West Network. Urban’s journey highlights the dedication and resilience required in collegiate athletics, and her progress serves as an inspiration for fellow athletes across the nation.
