Two Mothers Arrested in Bryan for Leaving Children Unattended
Bryan, TX – In a disheartening incident, two mothers have been arrested in Bryan, Texas, on charges of child endangerment for leaving their children unattended in different circumstances. The two separate incidents involved a mother leaving her children in an SUV while grocery shopping, and another mother carrying her newborn in an unsafe manner in the street.
Katia Jimenez Arrested for Abandoning Children in SUV
On May 20th, Katia Jimenez, 28, was arrested after she left her three children- twin infants aged ten months and a five-year-old alone in their SUV while she was grocery shopping. Despite the mother claiming she only spent two minutes to pick up a couple of items, it was determined that the children were left unattended for around 15 minutes late at night when the temperature was in the low 80s.
Upon inspection, the officers found several full grocery bags and a double stroller in the vehicle. Jimenez later posted bonds and was released from jail while the children were placed in the custody of an aunt.
Vanessa Morgan Arrested for Child Endangerment and Robbery
Just a few days prior on May 16th, another distressing incident occurred when Vanessa Morgan, 24, was seen carrying her two-week-old newborn in an unsafe way in the middle of a street, while it was raining. In a frightening escalation of events, Morgan attacked a Good Samaritan who attempted to assist her, striking them in the face and stealing their wedding ring.
After a tumultuous struggle during the arrest, which included Morgan biting an officer’s hand and resisting arrest, she was brought into custody. The charges against Morgan include child endangerment and robbery. She is currently held in jail, with a bond of $64,000.
Meanwhile, the newborn was rushed to a local hospital before being transferred to a Houston hospital for treatment of hypothermia and severe hunger.
