Thieves Apprehended
On late Friday evening, the tranquility of College Station, Texas was disrupted as police confronted and arrested two suspects in a major theft attempt. The pair had been spotted exiting Murdoch’s, a store located at the Post Oak Mall on Harvey Road, each wielding a shopping cart teeming with store merchandise that had not been paid for.
The Surveillance Footage
The store’s surveillance cameras revealed the suspects who were later identified as Lonnel Thorton, 47, and Elizabeth Nance, 49. The footage showed Thorton leaving the store first with his cart full of assorted items while Nance lingered behind, seemingly stalling to confuse store staff and maintain separation between their activities. Once Thorton had left, Nance also attempted to slip out of sight with a cart similarly filled with merchandise.
Thorton’s Capture
As per the probable cause statement, officers located Thorton after he had departed the premises in a gray Toyota Prius. He was promptly apprehended. His detainment led to the revelation of additional merchandise in the vehicle. This discovery raised the estimated value of the stolen items to total around $3,820.
Nance’s Arrest
Elizabeth Nance, Thorton’s accomplice who had been in the store with him during the incident, was also arrested. However, she was taken into custody on grounds of an unrelated outstanding warrant. Later, charges of theft were also laid against her.
Charges and Consequences
Upon investigation, the police report indicated that they had successfully recovered goods worth more than $2,200 from Thorton’s vehicle. Both Thorton and Nance are now facing state jail felony charges for theft of property ranging from $2,500 to $30,000. They are currently being held at the Brazos County Jail.
