College Station, Texas – Texas A&M University has announced the hiring of Andrew Kegley as the new senior associate athletic trainer for its men’s basketball team. The appointment was confirmed by head coach Bucky McMillan, who aims to bolster the athletic program’s training and care as the team prepares for competition in the highly regarded Southeastern Conference.

Kegley returns to Texas A&M after a three-season stint with Mississippi State, where he served as the men’s basketball athletic trainer on the Sports Medicine staff from the 2022-23 season. During his time with the Bulldogs, the team achieved impressive success, securing three consecutive seasons with at least 21 wins, earning invitations to the NCAA Tournament each year, and maintaining a presence in the nation’s top 25 rankings throughout his tenure.

Before his role at Mississippi State, Kegley was the head athletic trainer for Arkansas-Little Rock, where he primarily focused on the men’s basketball program during the 2021-22 season. His experience in various athletic environments has equipped him with the skills and knowledge necessary for addressing the health and performance needs of collegiate athletes.

Kegley began his professional career in the Texas A&M athletic department as an intern athletic trainer. In this role, he worked with both the men’s and women’s basketball programs, laying a solid foundation for his subsequent positions. His educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in health and exercise science and a master’s in athletic training from Bridgewater College.

While pursuing his degrees, Kegley gained extensive experience working with over 20 NCAA Division III athletic programs. He was also a member of the college football team during his freshman year. Kegley has further refined his skills through internships with notable programs, including the Alabama men’s basketball team, an internship with the Tennessee Titans of the NFL, and working with Dr. Michael Ray from Barbell Medicine.

Originally from Wytheville, Virginia, Kegley has solidified his qualifications by earning the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification in the spring of 2019. This designation highlights his commitment to athletic training and performance enhancement, which will be a valuable asset to the Texas A&M men’s basketball program.

As Kegley joins the restructured men’s basketball program under McMillan’s leadership, his appointment represents a strategic move to enhance the overall athlete experience and performance. McMillan was hired in April following the departure of former coach Buzz Williams to Maryland, marking a new era for the Texas A&M men’s basketball team.

Kegley’s extensive experience and proven track record will be instrumental as Texas A&M aims to compete at a high level within the Southeastern Conference. His focus on athlete care and performance optimization aligns with the program’s goals of achieving success and fostering a competitive spirit among its players.

The addition of Andrew Kegley to the Texas A&M coaching staff signifies the university’s commitment to improving its sports programs and ensuring that athletes are provided with the best possible resources for their development and success.
