Tim Drain Recognized as Outstanding Alumni by Texas A&M University

In Tyler, Texas, Dr. Tim Drain, an associate vice provost for student affairs at Tyler Junior College (TJC), has received significant recognition from his alma mater, Texas A&M University (TAMU). On a recent evening, Drain was honored during a gala event held in College Station, where he was one of seven recipients of the annual Outstanding Alumni awards bestowed by the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) at TAMU. These awards are the highest recognition the college grants to former students who have made notable contributions in their respective fields and communities.

Celebrating a Distinguished Career

Dr. Drain, a graduate of Texas A&M in 1991, currently holds a prominent position in his 26th year within higher education administration at TJC. Since 2018, he has served as the associate vice provost for student affairs, overseeing areas such as the dean of students, student life, the Apache Recreation Center, Intercollegiate Athletics, and the Apache Belles.

Before taking on his current role, Drain dedicated 19 years to athletics administration at TJC, spending 16 of those years as the director of intercollegiate athletics. Under his leadership, the college has achieved considerable success, securing a remarkable 42 national championships, 33 of which were won during his tenure as athletic director. His contributions to athletics have not gone unnoticed, as he has been awarded the Under Armour National Athletic Director of the Year on three different occasions (2012, 2015, and 2018).

A Legacy of Guidance and Support

Previously, he was associated with Texas A&M’s tennis program, where he contributed as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s teams in various periods from 1986 to 1999. His expertise in coaching was recognized in 1997 when he received the ITA Southwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year award.

Expressing gratitude for his recent accolade, Drain shared, “I am deeply honored and humbled to receive this award from Texas A&M. I am forever grateful to A&M for pointing me in the right direction and starting my career, and to Tyler Junior College for molding me for the last 26 years.” He acknowledged the support from his family, stating, “I am fully aware that my family and those in my work family have allowed me to receive some very nice personal recognition.”

Personal Life and Family

Dr. Drain resides in Tyler with his wife, Holly, and their sons, Peyton and Nathan, all of whom are proud Texas A&M alumni. Their shared connection to the university undoubtedly fosters a sense of community and tradition within the Drain family.

This honor not only highlights Dr. Drain’s substantial impact at TJC but also reflects the strong ties between its alumni and their contributions to education and student development.
