News Summary

Texas A&M’s softball team has achieved the No. 1 national seed for the 2025 NCAA Softball Tournament, attesting to their strong season under head coach Trisha Ford. With a record of 45 wins and 9 losses and remarkable performances in both non-conference and SEC play, the Aggies are well-prepared for their upcoming matches. They will host the College Station Regional, beginning with a game against Saint Francis, showcasing the team’s potential to make a significant impact in the championship.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M’s softball team has secured the No. 1 national seed in the upcoming 2025 NCAA Softball Tournament, marking a significant milestone for the program. This achievement is a culmination of nearly three years of strategic planning and development under head coach Trisha Ford, who has been leading the team since June 10, 2022.

The Aggies enter the tournament with an impressive record of 45 wins and 9 losses, their best performance since 2017. This strong showing includes a remarkable 30-2 record in non-conference play, with their only defeats coming against Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. In the Southeastern Conference (SEC), Texas A&M finished in second place, trailing only Oklahoma.

Texas A&M’s success has been underscored by their recent performance in the SEC Tournament, where the team secured two decisive run-rule victories, first against South Carolina and then against Texas. Their strong performance in the lead-up to the tournament positions them as a formidable contender for this year’s championship.

The Aggies will host the College Station Regional at Davis Diamond, with the tournament set to take place from May 16-18. In their opening game, Texas A&M will face Saint Francis, the champions of the Northeast Conference Tournament. Saint Francis has encountered tough competition in their non-conference schedule, facing heavy defeats against teams such as South Carolina, Virginia, Penn State, and Pitt.

If Texas A&M prevails in their first matchup, they will likely face either Marist or Liberty, both of which boast solid records. Coach Trisha Ford has indicated that the team’s focus will be on executing their game plan effectively, rather than being overly concerned with their opponents.

Last year, Texas A&M experienced heartbreak in the Super Regionals against Texas, which serves as a motivating factor as the team aims to rewrite that narrative this season. The regional rounds of the tournament will lead to the super regional rounds scheduled for May 22-25, culminating in the Women’s College World Series, which will run from May 29 to June 6 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The Texas A&M softball team features a well-rounded and experienced roster this year, comprised of both returning athletes and talented freshmen contributors. The SEC, which dominates this year’s tournament landscape, boasts the highest number of regional hosts (nine) and a total of 14 teams competing in the NCAA Tournament.

As the tournament approaches, Texas A&M has consistently ranked No. 1 in various polls and maintained the highest Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) in the nation for over a month leading up to the tournament. This recognition reflects the team’s strong season and their potential to make a significant impact on the national stage.
