COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M guard PJ Haggerty, who will play his first home games in College Station next month, picked up another preseason honor Thursday when the SEC office announced he made the coaches preseason All-SEC third team.
It is the second all-league nod of the preseason for the transfer, who had already been placed on the third team in the media vote. He is also one of 20 names on the preseason watch list for the Jerry West Award, which goes to the top shooting guard in the nation.
Haggerty spent last season at Kansas State. He was a starter in each of the 31 games he played there and put up 23.4 points a game, fourth in the country and tops but one in the Big 12. He also averaged 5.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists, shot 48.9 percent from the floor and had five games of 30 or more points, topped by 37 against Mississippi State.
Before that he played at Memphis and Tulsa after sitting out a redshirt year at TCU. At Memphis in 2024-25 he was the American Athletic Conference player of the year and helped the Tigers win both the league regular season and tournament titles on the way to the NCAA Tournament.
The 6-foot-4 guard gave Aggies fans an early look in the lone exhibition, scoring 28 points with four assists and four steals against SMU.
His jump to the SEC caps a winding path. After the Memphis run he was invited to the NBA Draft Combine, and he was named a second-team All-American following that season before moving on to Kansas State for one year.
Texas A&M opens the 2026-27 season at home on Tuesday, Nov. 3, against Alabama State, with tipoff at 7 p.m. at Reed Arena.
